Incident at Absalom Station
Dead Suns Adventure Path, book 1
One Week After Arrival

The characters arrive at Absalom Station ready to take on work with the Starfinder Society, however their point of contact, Duravor Kreel, is killed by a stray shot before they can speak with him when a gang fight breaks out at the shuttle bay. After reporting this to the Society, the characters are asked to investigate the shooting to ensure it was not actually an assassination.

During the investigation, the characters learn of Acreon, a Hardscrabble Collective mining vessel which was quarantined along with a strange hunk of rock nick-named Drift Rock. The ship returned without crew or explanation of what happened. The investigation revealed the gangs were proxies for the Collective and the major corporation that contracted them, Astral Extractions.

The killing was ordered because these powerful interests were concerned the Society would turn Drift Rock into some sort of artifact rather than potential profit, and so the group took down the violent criminals who pulled the trigger.

After taking some time to recover, the characters are contacted by the Eoxian ambassador, Gevalarsk Nor. He offered them a contract to investigate Acreon and Drift Rock as part of a neutral arbitration of the matter. He also asked them to retrieve a package that Acreon was acting as courier for.

Aboard the ghost ship, the crew finds akatas, aberrations from the Drift, infesting the whole ship. After securing the vessel, the captain's logs reveal that the akatas were not the only threat that came to them from Drift Rock.

Drift Rock contained larval akatas and an Android assassin, as well as other dangers. There was also machinery buried in the rock. Ancient warning signs flashed on screens kept preserved by the Drift, but it was impossible to tell specifics of the equipment's purpose or origin.

After dealing with the Drift-phasing monster haunting the rock, and the ghost of another of the monster's victims also haunting, literally, Drift Rock, they salvage a starship, the Sunrise Maiden.
