Dead Suns Adventure Path, book 2
31 days since campaign start
After a brief combat with an unidentified Eoxian vessel, the crew return to Chiskisk as the SFS to report on the Drift Rock. Chiskisk immediately pushes the heroes to follow-up with a contact in the Qabarat University on Castrovel.
At the university the group encounters a gaggle of reporters harassing the dean they need to speak with. The dean refuses to provide any help until the situation is addressed, so Lance ends up convincing a professor with a huge ego to admit fault before the reporters. Things go from annoying to troubling when the contact Chiskisk pointed them towards has been discovered to have been kidnapped.
After investigating the kidnapping, the characters set off for the wild continent of Ukulum to try and recover her and find out who the party interested in Drift Rock are. On Ukulum, both natural dangers and the group they are trailing slow their progress down. A sniper tries to use massive beasts to trample the group, but Lance's music played through Heph's speakers spooks the animals in a more controlled way.
For some time the group crosses Ukulum without encountering their target, but instead facing all that the planet has to offer. Hesori becomes incredibly sick from one such danger, but is spared a horrible death when the group settles in and works to get him healthy again.
The crew again encounters the sniper at an ancient elven ruin. Once again the crafty sniper uses the continent's natural wonders against them when his gunfire leads them into the tentacles of a massive skyfisher. After dealing with the dangers, the group finally captures the sniper, who informs them that they are chasing cultists of the Devourer.
Sabine uses the captured sniper's commlink to spoof some messages to the other cultists in the hopes of leading them into a false sense of security. They near the cultist's goal: The Temple of Twelve. An ancient elven structure devoted to astronomy, the cultists have used powerful magic to force an undead guardian to do their bidding.
Lance and the group wisely decide to find another way into the temple. They enter through the observatory and make their way downstairs. Lance is able to disarm some ancient guardians by simply being an elf and convincing a pair of living statues that the non-elves are allowed to be present.
In the heart of the temple the crew spots Dr. Solstarni, the professor they have been trying to recover. They also see a lashunta cultist rigging explosives with the intent of demolishing the ruins for no reason other than to honor the Devourer. A firefight breaks out. After the heroes defeat the woman and her lackeys, they set about dismantling her demolitions and repurpose them to defend against the cultist leader's return.
The group finally gets the drop on the cultists that had been a step ahead of them the whole time. They focus their attention on the cult leader, freeing the undead elf guardian from his controlling magic and gaining an ally in the fight.
Once the cult has been defeated and the doctor has been saved everyone studies the cultist's gear, including a massive system-wide communicator where they find that the cult has been broadcasting regularly with a hidden base in the Disaspora. The temple itself also provides interesting information, but answers to what Drift Rock was a part of and where the rest can be found.
The cult must not get it's hands on whatever is hidden in the Drift. It is a good bet that whatever interest some undead party has, it cannot be good either...
